Why should it be such a surprise if the perpetrators are themselves Indian Muslims? Its hardly a secret that there has been much anger within the poorest sections of the Muslim community against the systematic discrimination and acts of violence carried out against them of which the 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom in shining Gujarat was only the most blatant and the most investigated episode, supported by the Chief Minister of the State and the local state apparatuses.

Add to this the continuing sore of Kashmir which has for decades been treated as a colony by Indian troops with random arrests, torture and rape of Kashmiris an everyday occurrence. Conditions have been much worse than in Tibet, but have aroused little sympathy in the West where the defense of human rights is heavily instrumentalised.

Indian intelligence outfits are well aware of all this and they should not encourage the fantasies of their political leaders. Its best to come out and accept that there are severe problems inside the country. A billion Indians: 80 percent Hindus and 14 percent Muslims. A very large minority that cannot be ethnically cleansed without provoking a wider conflict.

None of this justifies terrorism, but it should, at the very least, force India’s rulers to direct their gaze on their own country and the conditions that prevail. Economic disparities are profound. The absurd notion that the trickle-down effects of global capitalism would solve most problems can now be seen for what it always was: a fig leaf to conceal new modes of exploitation.

Yep, rest easy people, rubbish, facile, corporate pop cd’s will be available for us to buy. The terrorists can’t stop that-

Record companies are taking action to ensure major new albums by Take That and Britney Spears reach shops after a leading CD distributor collapsed. Woolworths’ distribution arm Entertainment UK (EUK) stopped deliveries to stores after the company was put into administration.

The new releases by Britney Spears and Take That, two of the year’s biggest albums, come out on Monday. EUK delivered up to 30% of physical music in the UK, as well as DVDs. Its customers included retailers Zavvi, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and WH Smith, as well as Woolworths. Record labels and shops have resorted to alternative delivery methods to guarantee new releases are on shelves on Monday morning.

“What did I do wrong? Sure, I acted in films in the Third Reich, entertainment films, which distracted countless people inside and outside Germany from daily life during war,” he wrote.

“Sure, I wanted to make my career and I remember well at the time how many people in the Netherlands were proud that I made a career in the huge neighboring country … But apart from my career – and the fact that, through no fault of my own, Adolf Hitler was one of the fans of my art – what have I done?”

It’s what he didn’t do.

I assume that was a rejected headline for this AP report, instead they went with- Iraqi parliament OKs US troops for 3 more years- yeah they okayed it, real casual like- sure fellas you stick around for a while longer, it’s cool.

But, it gets worse-

The long, costly story of American military involvement in Iraq moved closer to an end Thursday when Iraq’s parliament approved a pact that requires all troops to be out in three years, marking the first clear timetable for a U.S. exit since the 2003 invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein. The vote for the security deal followed months of tough talks between U.S. and Iraqi negotiators that at times seemed on the point of collapse, and then days of hardscrabble dealmaking between ethnic and sectarian groups whose centuries-old rifts had hardened during the first four years of the war.

The war has claimed more than 4,200 American lives and killed a far greater, untold number of Iraqis, consumed huge reserves of money and resources and eroded the global stature of the United States, even among its closest allies.

centuries-old rifts‘, get that, these furrners are like that, no mention of the Salvador option eh? But really ‘untold number of Iraqis‘ well yes it is untold by you because you refuse to use the figures from peer reviewed scientific studies that in all other conflicts are accepted methodology, nor the survey results and extrapolation that tell us the untold truth it’s over a million dead. At this point pulling that kind of shit is basically Holocaust denial motherfucker. If you need to vomit read the whole thing. The murders in Mumbai do not go untold, roughly a Predator drone strike level of carnage, thus perception of those dangerous crazy killers marches on, I mean it’s not like say Fallujah, not even comparable, they had air support for that. Thank-fucking-you AP!

Lenin has a good piece up, there is wiki for the current situation here and of course twitter & oberoi’s feed, also Mumbai online @ Journalism.co.uk and Global Voices.

Also SOFA has passed in Iraq and Jotman has advice for any city bound coup tanks in Thailand-

As the day winds down in Bangkok, my old advice to the Thai military — based on my experience live-blogging their last coup — probably bears repeating:

But just before I headed off a horn sounded. A car swirved at high speed around the tank, narrowly missing it. The tank situated in the very center of the intersection was all but invisible to an unwary driver. (Note to Thai military: distribute reflective plates for your tanks for the next coup).

If you are in Bangkok tonight, play it safe.

As is usual this is how bureaucracy works, they do it slowly and when the attention is off try and pull a fast one-

Last Wednesday, on the 19th November, Hicham was due to attend a hearing regarding the alleged charges that formed the basis of his attempted deportation in June This is precisely what the campaign demanded: a chance for Hicham to fight his case in a court of law. (As you might already be aware, Hich was offered the chance back then to have the charges dropped against him in exchange for quietly leaving the country but refused).

However, in an extraordinary and highly unexpected move, the Home Office announced on the EVE of the trial that it had decided to reject Hicham’s right to stay in the U.K and, even more incredibly, have announced that he would only be given till Tuesday 2nd of December (in five days!) before being LIABLE TO BE DEPORTED from the country.

In other words, the Home Office has opted to assume Hicham is guilty rather than let a court of law decide. Hicham’s solicitors have called the decision (and its timing) a clear attempt at “psychological warfare” in order to unsettle Hicham before the hearing and to intimidate him into giving up.

We believe this act and its timing to be clearly unfair and highly indicative of the political nature of Hicham’s persecution by the Home Office. We are committed to fighting this decision by lodging an appeal before Tuesday and we ask you to help us in every way you can.

In particular, we are in urgent need for people to donate to Hicham’s legal fund. Hicham has been prevented by the Home Office from returning to work and is entirely dependant on the campaign’s support for financial support. We are currently aiming to raise five thousand pounds to ensure Hich can fight his case properly. We are still applying for access to legal aid in order to lessen this burden but we cannot count on this and need to ensure we are ready for all eventualities.

Please, if you can, log onto your online banking and donate TEN pounds (or whatever it is you can afford) to the campaign bank account. With a collective effort, we can give Hicham the opportunity to fight his case in a fair and just manner.

Please click www.freehicham.co.uk/what-can-we-do/ for details of how to donate as well as other ways of helping out (including template letters to the home office).

Please continue to spread the word and inform all your friends and colleagues about the campaign.
